Similar to a Blue Jay or a Magpie, I’m attracted to lights and light reflecting materials. Why? Because, light brings positivity, hope, life and a genuine sense of well-being.
The human body is another fascination of mine from my years of dancing. This combined with my reoccurring dreams of flying and having read about many winged humanoids described in ancient texts dating back to 4500 BC. I started envisioning winged beings.
As there are so many unanswered questions regarding our existence in this vast universe. I am open minded until proven otherwise and provided that we can only see in two dimensions and in certain light frequencies, maybe we have wings and just can’t see them? Maybe they’re our guardian angels, even our ancestors. Or maybe they just exist in my imagination?
My works are unique as they have a life of their own, depending on light colour and light intensity in surrounding vicinity of the work. Even with minimal light they are still alive, as they reflect whatever light is available. They are 100% handmade and multidisciplinary. My central themes are created with an embossed metal leaf gilding technique and is the main discipline in my artwork. The main content of my works are always envisioned and planned well before going to the canvas.Unlike my backgrounds, which except for the colours, are left very much to chance and to what happens in the moment, especially with acrylic pours. It’s the point that I’m most free. When the colours encounter the canvas at a precise moment, creating a unique outcome, is fascinating. The techniques I use for my backgrounds include acrylic pouring, blending and cracklé with an extensive range and on going search of mediums.
